Highway 17 Upgrade Underway Near Echo Bay
Construction is now underway on a major section of Highway 17 near Echo Bay, as the Ontario government begins upgrades to improve safety and strengthen a key transportation corridor in northern Ontario.
The project includes resurfacing nearly 17 kilometres of highway and repairing or replacing several bridges, including those at Bar River, Stobie Creek, and Richardson Creek.
Officials say the work will enhance road safety, support economic growth, and ensure the reliable movement of people and goods along the Trans-Canada Highway—one of Canada’s most important trade routes.
This investment is part of Ontario’s broader plan to modernize transportation infrastructure and create jobs across the province, with significant funding dedicated to northern communities.
