69th Annual Rotary Sports Awards Honours Sault's Top Student-Athletes

The spirit of sport, perseverance, and community pride filled the room at the 69th annual Rotary Sports Awards, as the top male student-athletes from across Sault Ste. Marie were recognized for their dedication, achievement and leadership across local high schools. Superior Height’s Dylan Wootton was named the Walter Lowe High School Male Athlete of the Year, capping off a standout multi-sport career that included football, basketball, volleyball, hockey and track. Mateo Ivorra from Superior Heights was awarded the B’Nai B’rith Scholarship scholarship awarded to the graduating secondary school student best combining athletic ability and academic achievement. The night also celebrated Craig Elliot being inducted into the Russ Ramsey High School Hall of Fame for his contribution to highschool sports during his more than two decades long career at Korah Collegiate. The H.P. Broughton Trophy, symbolic of the Sault Ste. Marie Sportsperson of the year was awarded to both Brad Jacobs and Don Martone.  Jacobs earned the honour following his second Olympic gold medal in curling, while Martone won the Canadian Men’s Senior Championship in golf.
