Sault Braces for Sweltering Conditions During Multi-Day Heat Event

Sault Ste. Marie and the Algoma Region have been under an extreme heat warning as temperatures have steadily been over 30 degrees celsius, with humidex values reaching closer to 40. Algoma Public Health and the City remind residents to keep Heat Safety top of mind. The City is making residents aware of facilities that can serve as cooling spots to find relief from the heat. These include the City’s splash pads, outdoor and indoor pools, arenas and public libraries. A full list of cooling spots could be found online on the City’s website. If you start to experience nausea, dizziness, a headache or feeling overheated, you could be at risk of experiencing a heat-related illness and should act immediately. Heat-related illnesses are preventable so be sure to drink plenty of water, take breaks from the heat, check on loved ones and never leave people or pets in parked vehicles.
