Tenaris Launches $306M Modernization Plan to Boost Production by 80%
Sault Ste. Marie is set for a major economic boost as Tenaris confirms a $306-million expansion of its steel pipe-making facility, a project that will create 200 new jobs and build on the company’s existing workforce of more than 800 employees.
The federal and provincial governments are contributing over $148 million in combined support, including $76.2 million from Ottawa through the Strategic Response Fund and up to $72 million from Ontario via the Invest Ontario Fund.
The expansion will introduce advanced automation, upgrade production lines, and increase Tenaris’ manufacturing output by 80 percent, strengthening Canada’s only seamless pipe producer at a time of rising global tariffs and growing demand for domestic steel.
Officials say the project is expected to generate nearly half a billion dollars in economic impact across Northern Ontario.
Local leaders call the investment a major step forward for the region’s industrial future, reinforcing Sault Ste. Marie’s role in Canada’s energy and manufacturing supply chains
