Transit Rolls Back Parts Of Sault Loops Bus Routes
Transit riders in Sault Ste. Marie will see more changes on September 20th as the city rolls back parts of the Sault Loops system.
The redesign was meant to simplify routes and improve frequency, but many riders said it made travel longer and more complicated. Several stops were removed, neighbourhoods like Manitou Park and East Street saw reduced service, and frustration led to protests and packed council meetings.
The city is now reversing some of those decisions. The Eastside route will once again serve Lawson Avenue after residents pushed for its return.
The Citywide Counter-Clockwise route will loop through Churchill Plaza, giving riders better access after leaving the John Rhodes Centre.
The Hillside Clockwise route will return to Station Mall, restoring direct mall access that riders had been protesting since the Loops launched.
The city says these adjustments respond directly to community feedback and are part of ongoing efforts to fix issues created by the Loops rollout. Updated routes will be posted on the transit website, Google Maps, Trip Planner, and the Umo app once the changes take effect.
