Butterflyway Project Takes Root in Sault Ste. Marie
The Butterflyway Project is a volunteer-led movement by the David Suzuki Foundation that is growing habitat for bees and butterflies in neighbourhoods throughout Canada. Butterflyway ranger, Carly Breckenridge, in Sault Ste. Marie, is sharing her passion project of turning a retired canoe into a public pollinator garden.
The Garden installed at Fort Creek is one of two Butterfly Way Canoe projects Carly has been involved with, the other is in Goulais River and is the only Butterflyway Project between the Sault and Wawa. The idea is that even adding small pockets of native plants to existing gardens can make a difference, helping support our native butterflies, bees, hummingbirds and other wildlife throughout the region.
