Northern Ontario Communities Evacuate as Wildfires Escalate
Forest fires burning out of control in northwestern Ontario have triggered multiple evacuation orders. Residents from Armstrong, Cushing Lake, Whitesand First Nation, Lac des Mille Lacs First Nation, and Collins First Nation have been told to leave immediately.
Emergency officials are directing evacuees south to Thunder Bay, which serves as the region’s main evacuation hub during large-scale wildfire events.
The OPP says conditions remain volatile, and people in Ignace, Crystal Lake, and along Highway 633 should be ready to evacuate on short notice as shifting winds continue to push smoke and flames toward nearby communities.
