Community Builders Opens New Training Centre in Sault Ste. Marie

Community Builders has opened a new training centre in Sault Ste. Marie, creating a hands-on space where local residents can learn real construction skills and build a pathway into the skilled trades.

The centre is being constructed by trainees themselves as part of a 12-week paid program that teaches everything from framing and drywall to flooring, painting and finishing work.

Regional Managing Director Maggie McGoldrick explains how the organization is working to address the shortage of tradesworkers in the region while helping young people find meaningful, long-term careers.

The program is designed to support people who may face barriers to employment or who simply need guidance to get started in the trades.

Community Builders partners with employment agencies and community organizations to help graduates move into jobs, apprenticeships or post-secondary programs once they complete their training.

McGoldrick says the goal is to give participants a clear pathway forward and the confidence to take their next step.

If you want to get involved with Community Builders in Sault Ste. Marie, there are a few ways to take part. Residents can hire the team for renovation projects, which directly supports training opportunities for people entering the trades. You can also donate unused building materials to their training centre on Industrial Park Crescent, giving trainees more resources to practice with.

Anyone interested in joining the 12-week paid program or learning more about upcoming cohorts can reach out to Community Builders through their website at www.communitybuilders.co/ or by contacting their Sault Ste. Marie office at 705-881-1076. The team can provide details on eligibility, training schedules and how to apply.
