Collins First Nation Residents Escape as Wildfire Destroys Entire Community
The people of Collins First Nation are safe, but many are now grieving the loss of the community they called home. What began as concern over a plume of smoke quickly escalated into a desperate race against time. As the fire closed in, residents realized they had only minutes to act. Thanks to the courage and determination of those leading the evacuation, every resident was brought to safety. Now in Thunder Bay, displaced families are being supported by an outpouring of donations and community assistance. But as they begin to process what happened, the reality is still setting in.
