Sault Ste. Marie Moves Ahead on $17 Million Waterfront Master Plan
Sault Ste. Marie City council is considering a proposal to raise the Municipal Accommodation Tax on hotel rooms from 4% to 6% starting September 1, 2025.
The extra funding would help launch the $17 million first phase of a long-term Waterfront Master Plan, with a major highlight being the creation of an urban beach, playground and floating river pool along the St. Marys River.
The project aims to transform Clergue Park and John Rowswell Park into vibrant, family-friendly spaces designed to attract both locals and visitors. Officials believe the upgrades could generate $45 million in new annual visitor spending, boosting the city’s tourism and economy.
