Sault Ste. Marie Receives $233,100 in Federal Funding to Advance Port of Algoma
Sault Ste. Marie is moving forward with plans for a public access marine port following a new $233,100 federal investment announced by MP Terry Sheehan at a recent Chamber of Commerce Chat.
The funding, provided through FedNor, will allow the City to complete technical assessments and develop a comprehensive port development plan.
The latest announcement brings total federal support for the Port of Algoma planning work to $638,400, including earlier funding from Transport Canada.
The project aims to enhance existing port infrastructure to meet rising demand for inbound and outbound goods and resource-based commodities across the region.
Officials say a public access port could expand economic opportunities by supporting critical minerals, forest bioproducts, biofuels, advanced manufacturing, and other emerging sectors.
