"A Fragile Beauty" Art Exhibit Opens at Sault Ste. Marie Museum

The Sault Ste. Marie Museum is proud to present A Fragile Beauty, a breathtaking new exhibit that brings together three acclaimed artists — Gordon Burke, Michael Burtch, and Annie King — in a celebration of nature’s delicate wonders. This exhibition invites visitors to pause, reflect, and rediscover the fragile beauty of the natural world through the lens of art.

At the heart of A Fragile Beauty are creatures often overlooked in everyday life: butterflies, moths, and small birds. These beings, though tiny, embody resilience and transformation, and the artists highlight their importance through diverse mediums. Gordon Burke’s intricate sculptures capture the elegance of form and movement, while Michael Burtch’s multimedia explorations weave together layers of meaning, blending science and creativity. Annie King’s paintings and ceramics add vibrant color and texture, reminding us of the interconnectedness of ecosystems and the fleeting nature of life itself.

What makes this exhibit truly unique is its fusion of art and science. Alongside the creative works, visitors will encounter natural specimens that deepen the experience, offering a rare opportunity to see how artistic interpretation and scientific observation can complement one another. This immersive approach encourages audiences to not only admire the beauty of these creatures but also to consider the urgent need to protect them in a world where environmental fragility is increasingly evident.

"A Fragile Beauty" Exhibit runs from Nov 6th to December 16th, 2025 at the Sault Ste. Marie Museum.
