Phyllis Webstad — the woman whose story inspired the Orange Shirt Day movement — made a surprise appearance at the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation event hosted by Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc on September 30th.
Her visit came just days after the premiere of a documentary about her life, presented by the International Indigenous Speakers Bureau and directed by Kathaleen Shannon Letitt, the organization’s CEO. The film offers an intimate look at Phyllis’s early years and the lasting impact of her residential school experience — the story that continues to inspire change around the world.
