National Indigenous Peoples Day at Tk'emlúps te Secwépemc's Arbour
There was a welcome break in the rain at the heart of Tk?emlúps te Secwépemc’s Arbour this past Saturday, June 21st—perfectly timed for the summer solstice and National Indigenous Peoples Day.
In a historic first for the region, six organizations came together to co-host this powerful celebration of Indigenous culture, resilience, and community: Tk?emlúps te Secwépemc, Kamloops Aboriginal Friendship Society, Ask Wellness Society, Two Rivers Métis Society, Lii Michif Otipemisiwak Family and Community Services, and City of Kamloops.
The event served as a day of reflection, honouring the past while fostering intergenerational education—connecting Elders and youth through ceremony, storytelling, and cultural sharing.
