Simcoe County Museum Virtual Speaker Series

Simcoe County Museum Virtual Speaker Series - Did John McCrae break the Geneva convention?

Plans by the Royal Regiment of Canadian Artillery to erect a memorial for John McCrae, author of the revered anthem “In Flanders’ Fields”, raised a question about this medical doctor’s non-combatant status. LCol Vivian McAlister (ret’d) will review the military and medical lives of John McCrae to answer the question. He will use the opportunity to share little known information about the selfless contributions made by this Canadian icon.

The museum boasts over 30,000 artifacts, five galleries, and 16 heritage buildings on 325 acres of County Forest. Thanks to a generous bequest from Charles Matthews, a new 10,000 square foot expansion will open by 2030, featuring the Charles Matthews Automotive and Innovations Gallery.
