Two New Child Care Spaces Opening in St. Thomas
Two new childcare centres will be opening in St. Thomas, and their waitlists opened Monday. The new spaces are much needed in the area, with some parents waiting years for their child to be accepted into a licensed centre. Local mom Kaitlyn Johnson added her son to the list for multiple centres just a week after finding out she was pregnant.
For those that don’t have family to help, options include private home based childcare that can cost double or more from spaces enrolled in the Canada Wide Early Learning and Childcare System. That can be an economic barrier for parents to get back to work says Mayor Joe Preston.
