Sault Ste. Marie Moves Forward On Linking Entire City With Trails
The City of Sault Ste. Marie moves forward for their plan to connect the entire city via new trails.
A 30km extension is underway to expand the Algoma Trail Network which already has 50kms of trails currently. The 30-kilometre trail extension will connect four lakes, various viewpoints and is expected to attract cycling tourists for multi-day stays.
Funding of $2.3 Million was dedicated by City Council and partners to get this project up and running.
City Officals say this will greatly improve tourism and keep Sault Ste. Marie competitve in the outdoor adventure market.
The money will support the construction of the Hiawatha Highlands & Conservation Area Connector Trail. Linking downtown Sault Ste. Marie with the Hiawatha Highlands Conservation Area, Wishart Park and Kinsmen Park, the new multi-use path, will provide residents with a safer active transportation option separated from local roadways. The scenic, five-kilometre multi-use path will connect users to some of the most visited outdoor recreation areas in the city.
