New Agreement Aims to Reduce Apprenticeship Barriers | Rogers tv
A new agreement between Alberta and Saskatchewan should make it easier for some Lloydminster-area heavy-duty equipment technician apprentices to access training closer to home. Under the new memorandum of understanding, Saskatchewan-based apprentices working in Lloydminster can now attend technical training at Lakeland College in Vermilion through Alberta's apprenticeship system, instead of travelling farther into Saskatchewan for schooling. Local employers say the agreement has been years in the making. G-Force Diesel operations manager Luke Roper says he spent nearly a decade pushing governments to recognize Lloydminster's unique cross-border challenges and reduce barriers for apprentices entering the trade.
