Medicine Hat School Division to Close Two Elementary Schools
The Medicine Hat Public School Division has made a tough decision to permanently close Southview Community School and Webster Niblock School due to declining enrollment and rising maintenance costs.
The unanimous vote on January 6th, 2026, followed extensive consultations with parents and community members. Board Chair Catherine Wilson says the transition will be smooth, but some families remain concerned about stability for students.
