Onion Lake Says AFN Cannot Speak for It

Onion Lake Cree Nation says the Assembly of First Nations cannot speak on its behalf. Community members gathered on Tuesday to support their leaders and Elders, who protested outside the First Nations-First Minister's Meeting in Ottawa a day earlier. The Nation withdrew from the AFN through a community referendum, and is calling for direct talks with the federal government. Concerns include meaningful consultation on major projects under Bill C-39, and what potential changes to the Indian Act could mean for its lands, membership, and treaty relationship.
