Slowing Down the Border City
Lloydminster could soon be slowing down, with City administration proposing a change to the default residential speed limit from 50 km/h to 40. The proposed reduction is part of a broader rewrite of Lloydminster's traffic bylaw. City administration says it does not have collision data showing a lower speed limit is needed, but says the change is being proposed in response to community concerns, and to improve resident's feeling of safety. We spoke with local residents about the proposed speed limit reduction, and whether they think slowing down residential streets is the right move. The broader traffic bylaw rewrite also includes proposed changes to parking rules, e-bike and e-scooter regulations, and penalties for excessive vehicle noise. Public feedback is open through mid-September.
