Current Mayors Facing Off With Current Councillors
With the deadline to apply as a candidate for the municipal election less than 2 months away, locally there are 3 municipalities where a current mayor is facing off against a current councillor. In Tillsonburg, Mayor Deb Gilvesy and councillor Kelly Spencer are the lone mayoral candidates, as are Mayor Colin Grantham and councillor Brian Derbyshire in Strathroy-Caradoc. London currently has 7 mayoral candidates registered, among them mayor Josh Morgan and councillor Susan Stevenson.
Incumbency is important during municipal elections since there are no party affiliations notes Martin Horak, director of the Centre for Urban Policy and Local Governance at Western University.
