Diverse and Converse: BIPOC Community Groups

Local BIPOC community groups come together for a roundtable about actionable steps, allyship, protecting BIPOC organizers, increasing diversity and inclusion in the workplace and education system, and combatting fake news. This month's panelists were Kween, executive director of the Guelph Black Heritage Society; Nadia Hussein, an anti-oppression advocate with Black Lives Matter Guelph; Carla Beharry, an anti-racism consultant, writer and mental health advocate who co-founded the Anti-Racism Community Collective; Bonita Uzoruo, founder of the Halton Hills Alliance for Social Change and Lannois Carroll-Woolery, the president of the Caribbean Canadian Association of Waterloo Region.

As we start to adjust to a new normal, there is much work to be done ahead in relation to race and racism, and discrimination, especially in Canada. While this work might be  uncomfortable, this discomfort will actually help us to learn and grow. What we really want to do is continue the conversation because it is vital. The goal of this discussion is to provide some tools to help you affect positive change within the community and yourself.
